Our approach

Colourful Minds' approach

We use a
person-centred, neuro-affirmative approach and align with the social model to support all neurodiverse (Colourful) Minds via play-based therapy.

Colourful Minds uses play-based therapy that entails using a variety of ways to support your child. We use fun activities to explore and practice behaviour aligning with your goals. Colourful Minds is the expert in using games, sports, music, crafts and more to work on your child’s goals.

We follow the social model that sees children who are neurodiverse with equal rights and free access to society just as they are. Just like everyone else, they have a right to autonomy and choice. Children with a neurodiverse brain should be supported by society because they are equal and have a right to inclusion. Their community should adjust its barriers and biases.

How are we neuro-affirmative? As a neuro-affirmative provider, we recognise and respect neurodiversity, promoting the acceptance and support of individuals with various neurological differences, such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, ODD and others.

We understand that neurological differences are natural variations of the human brain, not deficits or disorders to be fixed. We build upon the strengths and unique perspectives that neurodiverse individuals bring.

Our behaviour consultants tailor support and interventions to meet the individual needs, preferences, and goals of each child and their families. Respect their autonomy and involve them in decision-making processes about their care and support. A Person-centered approach also ensures that physical, social and sensory environments are accommodating and inclusive.

Our language is respectful and affirming. We use person-first or identity-first language based on the individual’s preference.

Our behaviour therapists are educated about neurodiversity, follow best practices and follow insights from neurodiverse individuals. We keep informed about the diverse ways neurodiverse people experience and navigate the world.
